MEDEAMA TOPS AFTER FIRST ROUND 0F GLO PREMIERSHIP

Sensational Medeama SC lead the standing at the half way point of the 2012/13 Glo Premier League (GPL) and are looking good to wrestle their first silverware in the top – flight of Ghana football.
Medeama SC 1 – Tema Youth 0
In the games played, Medeama SC recorded their ninth win of the season with a hard – fought 1 – 0 victory over a very stubborn Tema Youth side at the Tarkwa T & A Park.
Bismark Asiedu’s 38th minute effort was all the Mauves needed to post their fifth home win of the campaign and finish as winners of the first round with 30 points and a goal difference of plus nine to leave Tema Youth with 15 points in 12th position.
Aduana Stars 0 – Ebusua Dwarfs 0
In second position with 27 points are Aduana Stars who drew goalless with Ebusua Dwarfs at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park at Dormaa. Dwarfs, who have never lost to this opposition at Dormaa, are seventh with 23 points.
AshantiGold 1 – Berekum Chelsea 1
Berekum Chelsea are third on the ladder with 25 points and ended the first round with a one all draw at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium against AshantiGold who are fifth with 24 points.
Louis Agyemang scored first for the Miners in the seventh minute but their hopes of a fourth home win of the campaign was blown to the winds as Edward Kpodo equalized for the visitors in the 30th minute.
Amidaus Professionals 4 – RTU 0
High flying debutants, Amidaus Professionals posted an emphatic 4 – 0 victory over Real Tamale United (RTU) at the Tema Park to move to fourth on the ladder with 24 points from their 15 games denying RTU a first win of the season as they sit bottom of the table with five points.
Liberty 1 – Kotoko 2
Liberty lost 2-1 to the defending champions Kotoko in their outstanding last week of the first round fixture played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Heart of Lions 1 – All Stars 1
Heart of Lions drew 1 – 1 with Wa All Stars at their Kpando base to finish the first round in eighth position with 21 points six more than All Stars who are 13th on the ladder.
Seidu Salifu scored his seventh goal of the campaign as All Stars took the lead in the 26th minute, but, Kodjo Edem leveled matters for Lions in the 64th minute as they shared the spoils.
King Faisal 1 – Hearts of Oak 1
King Faisal scored late on through Prince Boateng to earn a point at home to Hearts of Oak as the two sides drew one all at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Robin Gnagne had given Hearts a first half lead.
Faisal moved to 10th on the log on 18 points which is three better than that of the Phobians who remain in the relegation zone with only two clubs below them.
Berekum Arsenal 1 – New Edubiase United 0
New Edubiase United lost 0 – 1 to Arsenal at Berekum to close the first round with 18 points in 11th position with the Gunners next to last with 12 points.
The GPL takes a break to make way for the African Cup of Nations football tournament which starts on January 19 in South Africa with Ghana as one of the participating countries.
The competition resumes after the continental showpiece is over and promises to be an interesting spectacle if the first round is to be set as a standard marker.
