Angry Swaziland fans steal striker's boots after heavy defeat

The Mbabane Highlanders striker Mfanufikile Ndzimandze has urged angry fans to return the boots he lost after Swaziland‘s most successful club slumped to their worst defeat in 22 years on Sunday.

Ndzimandze lost the boots while being chased by enraged supporters to the club’s mini-bus after the 5-1 defeat to Malanti Chiefs, the Times of Swaziland reported.

The player said fans confiscating his footwear would not solve the problems around the team’s current struggles.

“I lost the boots as we were running to the kombi because some of the fans wanted to beat us up,” he told the newspaper.

“That things are not going well is clear but it is not for us players to sort them out but our leaders.”

Highlanders have won more league titles than any other club in the country, but their last championship success was a decade ago.
Sunday’s defeat left them one place above the relegation zone in the league standings with seven points from their first nine games of the new season.

GFA extends Voltic deal for three more years

The Ghana Football Association has extended Voltic GH Limited's sponsorship contract for the Glo Premier League.

The new package, which was paid up front is worth GHC195,000 for the next 3 years.

The water bottling company will also make a provision of 6,000 cartons of their products during match days for the next three seasons.

GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said the GFA has over the years benefited immensely from its partnership with Voltic and expressed belief that this new sponsorship package will be very beneficial to the 16 clubs in the Premier league.

“On behalf of all the 16 premier league clubs, I will like to express gratitude to Voltic for the faith in the GLO premier league. It’s my believe that this will serve as an example to other corporate organizations to also sponsor our league,” he said.

Gregory Metcalf, Managing Director of Voltic Ghana, said the partnership gives Voltic an opportunity to give back to the Ghanaian society for its patronage of their products.

“This partnership is therefore a perfect opportunity for us to show our appreciation to Ghanaians by supporting football, the passion of the nation.

“It is our hope that our partnership with the GFA will further support the association’s firm drive to promote the culture of excellence in Ghanaian football," the Voltic manager added.

The partnership between the GFA and Voltic GH limited was first initiated in August, 2009.

PREVIEW: CHELSEA DARES WA ALL STARS

 By Ebenezer Zor
The Glo Premiership actions continue tomorrow as dethroned league leaders Berekum Chelsea look to pour their anger on Wa All Stars in the week nine fixtures at the Golden City Park. Chelsea hopes to make amends after succumbing to a total 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Dwarfs last Sunday at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. Wa All Stars managed to secure a point against King Faisal in Kumasi.

Current league leaders Aduna Stars will take on premiership returnee King Faisal to the Nana Agyemang Badu at Dorman Ahenkro. Can Aduana pull a sweet victory over Faisal to maintain its position or King Faisal to give them a good run for their money?

After losing out to Edubiase, Real Tamale United continues their ban as they host second spot on the league log Ebusua Dwarfs at the Accra Sports Stadium. Bottom place RTU will have a lot of mopping up to do as they pit against a more resilient and compact side Dwarfs.

Defending Champions and unbeaten in this season campaign, Kumasi Asante Kotoko may be hoping to continue their magic as they welcome New Edubiase to the Baba Yara Stadium. Kotoko won its last duel against the harbour boys Tema Youth by 2-1 whiles Edubiase won against RTU at Bekwai. It is a battle between of two winners.

Nonetheless, the scientific soccer lads Liberty Professionals will invite Tema Youth to the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park for the match day nine of the Glo premiership this mid-week. Liberty suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Accra Hearts of Oak whereas Tema Youth lost 2 – 1 to Kotoko. Both teams will be picking up the piece in this encounter.

Amidaus two all drawn game against Medeame last Sunday at Tarkwa has boost their morale to come face to face with a rejuvenated Accra Hearts of Oak at the Tema artificial turf. Amidaus will like build upon their game whiles Hearts may try to leave no stone unturned.

Medeame after their drawn game with Amidaus last Sunday at Tarkwa will make a journey to Obuasi to play as visitors to Ashantigold in the match day nine of 2012/2013 Glo season. Ashantigold may go all out to avoid a third consecutive loose in this season as they failed to pick a point against Arsenals last Sunday at Berekum.

The borbor lads, Kpando Hearts of Lions will engage the Gunners Berekum Arsenals at the Kpando Park. Lions lost 2-0 to Aduana Stars whiles Arsenals secured their maiden victory in the season after a 1- 0 win over Ashantigold. Will it moment for Lions to redeem themselves or Arsenals continuing their feat?

Dwarfs crush Chelsea in Cape Coast

Berekum Chelsea suffered their heaviest Premier League defeat after falling 4-1 to Ebusua Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium on Sunday.

On a day when Dwarfs were marking their return to their favorite grounds after completing a 12-match ban from last season, the result will mean lots to them as they jump third on the standings.

Francis Atuquaye scored a brace in between strikes from John Arthur and Awisone Fumador.

Chelsea got their consolation through Bismark Idan. And the defeat sees the Berekum side slip to fifth on the table.

They take on Wa All Stars on Wednesday and will be determined to repair their dented image.
