The late Aliu Mahama |
The demise of the former vice president of the fourth republic of Ghana under the 1992 constitution, the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama
has been a shock and terrible blow for the country.
His death occurred on Friday 16 November 2012 at
exactly 9:45 am at the Korle -Bu Teaching hospital after a short illness.
Ghana in less than six month has lost another great
second son of the land whose leadership qualities was unquestionable. He was a
founding member of Ghana’s topflight club, Real Tamale United (RTU) in Tamale.
A refined gentleman he was saw him advocate for peace,
discipline and respect in discharge of his service to ordinary Ghanaian in the
capacity of nation building. No wonder he has been the longest ever serving
vice president in the country’s political history from 2001 to 2009 under former president John Agyekum Kuffour on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Not long ago, the country also lost the first
gentleman of the land in person of the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills in a
very shocking state. No one can wrestle the power of death when it knocks at ones
door.
At this moment, the family of Aliu Mahama is yet to
feel his absence when has finally laid to rest in Tamale. For this reason, Ghana should remember a word
of prayer for the bereaved family.
This piece is to depict how petrified the nation is
at the lost of these political figures devoid of any political affiliations.
Though they had gone their memories
still live with us.
I believe that the sudden and untimely departure of
these personable two characters is symbol of an everlasting peace before,
during and after the 2012 December polls.
May their soul continue to rest quietly in the bosom of
the Almighty God or Allah.
